Ruth and Boaz at the Threshing Floor

He said, “May you be blessed by the Lord, my daughter; this last instance of your loyalty is better than the first; you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich. And now, my daughter, do not be afraid, I will do for you all that you ask, for all the assembly of my people know that you are a worthy woman. But now, though it is true that I am a near kinsman, there is another kinsman more closely related than I.Remain this night, and in the morning, if he will act as next-of-kin for you, good; let him do it. If he is not willing to act as next-of-kin for you, then, as the Lord lives, I will act as next-of-kin for you. Lie down until the morning.” (Ruth 3:10-13, NRSV)

This act of loyalty is better than the first, for you have not gone after young men, either rich or poor but have come to a kinsman.

Ruth has been loyal to Naomi, going with her where she goes and worshipping her God and following after her kinsmen.

And Boaz sees this and honors that. He holds ruth up as a worthy woman and promises to make sure she is cared for. Meaning if the nearest kinsman will not fulfill his duty, Boaz will.

Boaz is an honorable man.

Do we live with honor?

God is Love

Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us. (1 John 4:11-12, NRSV)

If we love one another God lives in us and His love is perfected in us.

We get the love of God dwelling in us when we share that love with others. Not when we hoard it all for ourselves. Not when we tell others all the things they are doing wrong and have to fix before God will love them or they will be worthy of God’s love because God didn’t do that to you.

You see God loved you when you were separated from Him and before you were worthy as if you are worthy of God’s love now. None of us will ever be worthy of God’s love, but He loves us anyway. And we ought to love others as He loves us so that His love will be perfected.

Love as God loved and loves you.

God is Love

Beloved, let us love one another because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1 John 4:7-10, NRSV)

If you do not love you do not know God.

And the reason we have love is not that we loved God, but that God loved us while we were yet sinful and sent His son to show us love.

So if we do not love we are not a part of Him.

And we love others not because they deserve our love, but because God first loved us.

The Inescapable God

For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.

My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed.

How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!

I try to count them—they are more than the sand; I come to the end—I am still with you.

(Psalm 139:13-18, NRSV)

I will praise God because God knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Everything about me was formed together by God and I am wonderfully made and perfect in the eyes of my creator!

He is worthy of our praise for the way we are made!

worthy life

For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God. May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:9-14, NRSV)

Lead lives worthy of the Lord…

Easier said than done. How does one live a life worthy of the Lord?

How does one fully fulfill the calling you received from the Lord?

You live in God’s knowledge, not the worlds.

You follow spiritual wisdom and understanding from God.

You love God and others more than yourself.

So center yourself in Christ and follow after him!

I’ll be singing

I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: ‘I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, a God feared in the council of the holy ones, great and awesome above all that are around him? O Lord God of hosts, who is as mighty as you, O Lord? Your faithfulness surrounds you. You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them. You crushed Rahab like a carcass; you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm. The heavens are yours, the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it—you have founded them. The north and the south—you created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name. You have a mighty arm; strong is your hand, high your right hand. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you. Happy are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your countenance; they exult in your name all day long, and extol your righteousness. For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. For our shield belongs to the Lord, our king to the Holy One of Israel. (Psalm 89:1-18, NRSV)

I’ll be singing!

I’ll be singing of the steadfast love of the Lord because He is true to His promises and the covenant He made.

He is worthy of our praise and my singing will make known His marvelous love!

So sing to and about the Lord for He is worthy to be praised and all the world should hear of His love for them!

Joyful noise

170325O come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and the dry land, which his hands have formed. O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. O that today you would listen to his voice! Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, when your ancestors tested me, and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work. For forty years I loathed that generation and said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they do not regard my ways.” Therefore in my anger I swore, “They shall not enter my rest.” (Psalm 95, NRSV)

Let us come into God’s presence and make a joyful noise!

For our God is a great king and worthy to be praised for all of the wonderful things He has done for us.

He is our God and our keeper. He is our shelter and protection.

So make a joyful noise unto Him for all He has done for us!
