heavenly calling

Therefore, brothers and sisters, holy partners in a heavenly calling, consider that Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession,2was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses also “was faithful in all God’s house.” 3Yet Jesus is worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. 4(For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.)5Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken later. 6Christ, however, was faithful over God’s house as a son, and we are his house if we hold firm the confidence and the pride that belong to hope. (Hebrews 3:1-6, NRSV)

We all have a heavenly calling and are a part of the house of God.

God will always be with us and give us the strength and words to see through everything that comes our way when we hold firm the confidence and pride that belong to hope.

So stay true to your calling and share the hope you have with all the world.

remind

25”I have said these things to you while I am still with you. 26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. (John 14:25-26, NRSV)

The Holy Spirit lives in us and reminds us of all that Jesus taught us to do.

Have you ever been doing something and you think maybe I shouldn’t do this? Or this isn’t a good idea?

That is the Spirit reminding you what Jesus taught.

I’m reminded a lot. And I’m glad that I am reminded of what God wants me to do, and that God loves me even when I choose to do otherwise, even though I should do what I am reminded to do.

So do what you are reminded to do.

Spirit powers activate

4Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; 6and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone.7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.8To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. 12For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.13For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:4-13, NRSV)

We are all part of the body of Christ. We can not say because we aren’t a teacher we aren’t a part, or because we can’t prophesy we aren’t a part of the body. Everyone is needed.

God through the Spirit has gifted each of us for ministry and we all play a vital part of the plan.

So know you are needed to do your part.

The Spirit says

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. 3Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says “Let Jesus be cursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:1-3, NRSV)

You can not say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

Meaning if you say that, then the Spirit is within you. Does that mean everything we do and say then is what the Spirit wants us to do? If we believe in free will then no. We can always follow our own way.

So I beseech you to follow the Spirit and head the leading of God.

Neither sees nor knows

15”If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.17This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. (John 14:15-17, NRSV)

You can’t see the Spirit but the Spirit is always with you. The Spirit resides in you and guides you, and intercedes when we can’t make the words or thoughts come together.

The Spirit is always with you.

How are you living with the Spirit?

Are you thirsty?

37On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, 38and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’” 39Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (John 7:37-39, NRSV)

When the Spirit is with you out of your heart will flow streams of living water.

We can quench the thirst of those around us who are thirsty because the Spirit is within us.

We can give them love and hope and take care of them because God has empowered us to do that and to be there for them.

Are you ready to quench thirst?

helps

26Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. 27And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.  (Romans 8:26-27, NRSV)

When you can’t get the words to come out when the thoughts do not make sense in your own head, the Spirit knows what you need and intercedes.

We are never alone even when we think we are in a deep dark hole. God is always there and knows what we need.

The Spirit

37On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, 38and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’” 39Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (John 7:37-39, NRSV)

Out of the believer’s heart shall flow a river of living water!

Out of your heart flows God’s living water!

You can share what was given to you with all of the world!

Go, for you don’t go alone, Jesus and the Spirit are with you and give you what you need to show the world God’s love!

The Spirit of Commandment

9Then he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition! 10For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must surely die.’ 11But you say that if anyone tells father or mother, ‘Whatever support you might have had from me is Corban’ (that is, an offering to God)— 12then you no longer permit doing anything for a father or mother, 13thus making void the word of God through your tradition that you have handed on. And you do many things like this.” (Mark 7:9-13, NRSV)

When we twist the word to fit our needs is not what God intended.

But aren’t we all guilty of this. How can we focus our lives on God and follow God’s word in our life?

We need to understand the underlying meaning God has for us and allow that to permeate our lives.

Love God and allow God’s love to shine through your life.

The Garden of Eden

In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,5when no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no one to till the ground; 6but a stream would rise from the earth, and water the whole face of the ground— 7then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being. 8And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9Out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 10A river flows out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides and becomes four branches. 11The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one that flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12and the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. 13The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one that flows around the whole land of Cush. 14The name of the third river is Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. 15The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. 16And the Lord God commanded the man, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; 17but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.” 18Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” 19So out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for the man there was not found a helper as his partner. 21So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.22And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one shall be called Woman, for out of Man this one was taken.” 24Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh. 25And the man and his wife were both naked, and were not ashamed. (Genesis 2:4b-25, NRSV)

This is the second creation story in the Bible. It has God forming man out of the dust and breathing into his nostrils the breath or Ruach, the wind, breath, Spirit.

God filled the man with Spirit, and he lived, and then God formed every animal and every bird form the dust and brought them to man to name and to find a companion for man. But a companion was not found so God caused a sleep to come over man and God took a piece of the man’s side and closed it back up and then made woman. And woman was made from man. Every other being made was formed from dust except the woman who was made form man, Why?

Thin about communion and how when we partake of it we are partaking of Jesus body and blood, We are becoming one with God through the meal. And the church is the bride of Christ. And we are made alive through Jesus. So, in essence, the original creation mimics the creation of Christ and His church. It is that the church can only exist if it is made from Christ.

So be made of Christ and live your life in Him knowing He gave it all for you.
