hungry

Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, ‘I have compassion for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way.’ The disciples said to him, ‘Where are we to get enough bread in the desert to feed so great a crowd?’ Jesus asked them, ‘How many loaves have you?’ They said, ‘Seven, and a few small fish.’Then ordering the crowd to sit down on the ground, he took the seven loaves and the fish; and after giving thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And all of them ate and were filled; and they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. Those who had eaten were four thousand men, besides women and children. After sending away the crowds, he got into the boat and went to the region of Magadan. (Matthew 15:32-39, NRSV)

Where are we going to find food enough for all of these people?

How long had the disciples been with Jesus?

How many miracles have they witnessed by this point? And yet they still don’t get it.

But would we be any different?

We would question. We would wonder. We wouldn’t understand.

So be hungry for what God as to do and ask how you will get to be a part of His plan, and allow Him to work through you.

Do you?

161214As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, crying loudly, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you.” And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly ordered them, “See that no one knows of this.” But they went away and spread the news about him throughout that district. (Matthew 9:27-31, NRSV)

Do you believe Jesus is able to heal you?

Wow, it is all on me now, so if I ask for God to heal someone and they are not healed then it is my fault because I did not believe. I think we get skeptic of things. If we can have faith that God will do what we ask, if it is in His will, then it will be done.  I think it is not only up to our belief but also to God’s will.

So do you believe? I believe God can and will do miracles in our lives every day.

back to life

160607Now in Joppa there was a disciple whose name was Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas. She was devoted to good works and acts of charity. At that time she became ill and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in a room upstairs. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, who heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him with the request, “Please come to us without delay.”  So Peter got up and went with them; and when he arrived, they took him to the room upstairs. All the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing tunics and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was with them. Peter put all of them outside, and then he knelt down and prayed. He turned to the body and said, “Tabitha, get up.” Then she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up. He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then calling the saints and widows, he showed her to be alive. This became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. Meanwhile he stayed in Joppa for some time with a certain Simon, a tanner. (Acts 9:36-43, NRSV)

Jesus said we would do all the things He did and even greater things.

Here Peter raises Tabitha from the dead. He restores her to community and he restores the community.

And how did he do it?

He emptied the room except him and Tabitha, and then he knelt down and prayed. He asked God to raise this woman, to work in and through him to restore life in community as it was.

And then he spoke with God’s power and told her to get up.

If we submit to the power of prayer, we to will do all that Jesus did and as He said even greater things!

greater than these…

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”  Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it. (John 14:5-14, NRSV)

I tell you the one who believes in Jesus will do the works He did and in fact do greater works than these!

If we follow Jesus, we will not only do what He did, but greater things…

So know that you have seen God, in the face of the stranger, when you are Jesus to them!

And continue to follow Him where He leads you and we will all be together one day!

Greater than these…

Philip said to him, Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us. Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. (John 14:8-17 ESV)

Did you see that? Philip asked to see the Father and Jesus said that he had seen the Father, because he had seen Jesus. But not the fact that we have seen the Father because we have seen Jesus is not what is important here.

It is what Jesus says about what those who believe will do. Jesus said that those who believe in Him will do the works that He has done and even greater works than these. Wow! Jesus just said you will raise the dead, heal the sick, and lame, and the like and then we as believers we will do greater works than these! When was the last time you raised a person from death to life, or healed the sick or lame? Unless you are a doctor or surgeon, you may have a problem naming this. And yet Jesus says you will do greater works than these. If we have not done the first how is it we will do greater than these?

The Spirit is ever present to us as believers and therefore we have this advocate to help us. We have the gift of having the Living God in us all the time. He is ever present with us.

I would say that we have brought the death to life and healed the sick and the lame. Maybe not the way we would think, but thought the lives we have lived we have done the miracles that Jesus did and even greater.

Live your life in such a way that living spirit is blowing through your life and others see God in your very being. You will do greater things than these because He is always living in you!
