Flood

In the six-hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened. The rain fell on the earth for forty days and forty nights. On the very same day Noah with his sons, Shem and Ham and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons, entered the ark, they and every wild animal of every kind, and all domestic animals of every kind, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every bird of every kind—every bird, every winged creature. They went into the ark with Noah, two and two of all flesh in which there was the breath of life. And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in. The flood continued for forty days on the earth; and the waters increased, and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. The waters swelled and increased greatly on the earth; and the ark floated on the face of the waters. The waters swelled so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered; the waters swelled above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep. And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, domestic animals, wild animals, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all human beings; everything on dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, human beings and animals and creeping things and birds of the air; they were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those that were with him in the ark. And the waters swelled on the earth for one hundred and fifty days. But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and all the domestic animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided; the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the rain from the heavens was restrained, and the waters gradually receded from the earth. At the end of one hundred and fifty days the waters had abated; and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. The waters continued to abate until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains appeared. (Genesis 7:11–8:5, NRSV)

We think of the Noah and the flood story as a great children’s story. But remember the world was fully populated, not as high as today, but the only people who survived were Noah, his wife, and the sons and their wives and the animals. Everyone else did not survive…

Noah followed after God, and the promise of love followed through Noah.  And God remembered them and stopped the rain and let the boat find land…

God is good to His promises.

See us through

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened. The rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. On the very same day Noah with his sons, Shem and Ham and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons entered the ark, they and every wild animal of every kind, and all domestic animals of every kind, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every bird of every kind—every bird, every winged creature. They went into the ark with Noah, two and two of all flesh in which there was the breath of life. And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the LORD shut him in. The flood continued forty days on the earth; and the waters increased, and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. And the waters swelled on the earth for one hundred fifty days. At the end of one hundred fifty days the waters had abated; and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. The waters continued to abate until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains appeared. (Genesis 7:11-8:5, NSRV)

The rain came and flooded the Earth…

And Noah and his wife, and their 3 sons and their wives, along with every animal on the earth was safe in the ark… And God saved them from the flood…

God was faithful to the 8 and the creatures as He destroyed those who did not follow Him. Because the flood waters could have lasted forever, but God remembered them and blew a wind to have the waters recede…

As God saw Noah and his family through to dry land after the flood, He will be with you!

Covenant of Peace

Sing, O barren one who did not bear; burst into song and shout, you who have not been in labor! For the children of the desolate woman will be more than the children of her that is married, says the Lord. Enlarge the site of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your descendants will possess the nations and will settle the desolate towns. Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; do not be discouraged, for you will not suffer disgrace; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the disgrace of your widowhood you will remember no more. For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name; the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called. For the Lord has called you like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, like the wife of a man’s youth when she is cast off, says your God. For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will gather you. In overflowing wrath for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you, says the Lord, your Redeemer. This is like the days of Noah to me: Just as I swore that the waters of Noah would never again go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you and will not rebuke you. For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you. (Isaiah 54:1-10, NRSV)

Has everything always gone your way?

Do you find it hard to face the day because everything seems to go against you?

Isaiah tells the barren women to sing praises! Because your children will be more than the children of her who was not barren!

Praise the Lord in your sorrow!

Isaiah tells us that we should praise the Lord at all times, because no matter what we face, nothing will remove the eternal covenant of His peace from us.

As in the days of Noah, the world was destroyed but Noah held tightly to the peace and the protection of God. He is walking with you, just as He was with Noah and his family.

Trust in the peace He can give you!

left behind

‘But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so too will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken and one will be left. Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour. (Matthew 24:36-44, NRSV)

Two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken and one will be left… But which do you want to be?

Given the context of the passage and the reference to the flood; I would say you want to be the taken… but this is not about the rapture. This is about being aware of the surroundings and living as the disciple that God created you to be.

Because did those around Noah really have no clue that something was going on? I mean they saw Noah and his sons building this huge thing in the middle of no where. And they had no clue? They saw the signs, they just did not know how to read them.

They were not ready for the Son of Man to come. Are you?

Do you see the signs around you?

Are you living as the disciple He created you to be?

Or are you more concerned with yourself and getting what you deserve to be concerned with His creation?

He is coming like a thief in the night….

Are you ready?

Who is on your side…

20130528-185737.jpgIf it had not been the Lord who was on our side— let Israel now say— if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when people rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; then over us would have gone the raging waters. Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. (Psalms 124:1-8 ESV)

Have you ever felt like something was just waiting in the wings, like this tiger crouched in the tall grass ready to bounce and pounce upon you?

Many things in our lives are just waiting in the tall grass to jump up and over take us. So why don’t they?

Our lives seem to take turns and go up and down, like a roller coaster. For instance our finances have not been the best since I have been on leave from call, and this past weekend I went to get a tire repaired and was met with, the tread is to low, we can’t repair it. The tires in question should have had 40,000 more miles of tread left. Of course they can’t warranty them. And new ties that would replace what we had would be $240… Our bank account hiccuped at even the thought of this. So I asked about lower tread life, and that was $170. My bank account still did not like that. So I left that place and went to another store, and here they had a lower tread life tire for $222 and 6 months Interest free on their credit card. And we just got $220 for mileage to an event we went to for our congregation. I also had to replace glasses for me and 2 of our daughters and that was $150.70. And I had just recently gotten $150 for being a supply pastor for a congregation. Many would say these are coincidences, but I say there are no coincidences, these are Godincidences.

You see we re not given over to the avenger, because we are not to be prey, when the Lord is on our side. So who is on your side?
