Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:38-42, NRSV)
Have you ever been someplace doing all of the work, while someone else, who should have been helping was sitting and listening to what was happening?
Have you ever resented family members who didn’t help when there were chores to be done?
Jesus told Martha who was worried about getting all of the house work done, that it will be there later. And right now we need to be with me. Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen, a place that was not open to woman, but Jesus knew that is where Mary and Martha should be.
Martha wanted the work done, but her focus was off. Jesus said to focus on Him.
When we chose to focus on Jesus the rest of the will fall into place.
So how many things do you need?
Really only 1, just focus on Jesus.
