After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up, left everything, and followed him. Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house; and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting at the table with them. The Pharisees and their scribes were complaining to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus answered, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance.” (Luke 5:27-32, NRSV)
When do you go to the doctor?
If you’re like me you try not to go at all. My father only went to the doctor when he was dying…
We go to the doctor when we are sick. And those who are not sick usually don’t go to the doctor. Now we do have preventative care and so you might go for a physical or a check up for medicine when you are not sick. But we normally only seek out medical services when we are sick.
And Jesus comes to us to show us there is a better way to live. Not for those already living the life God has for them, but everyone else.
Jesus came to help all repent, turn around and live the life God has for them. Let us go and show everyone the love He has for us and them.
